Cluttered context menu? Here's the best way to clean up the right-click menu by removing the options you don't need in Windows 10.

In Windows, the right-click menu is one of the best and used parts of any program. The right-click menu hosts from basic choices to custom options set by Windows along with other programs. Depending on that which you right-click on, the options you get will change. That's the reason why method . a Context Menu. Depending on the context, the options adapt or change. Simply put, the right-click menu is a versatile place to keep all of the options yet still be taken care of of standard use.

Since just about any program can also add its own choices to the right-click menu, it can become cluttered very soon. This is especially true if you have installed a lot of programs. This simply means the right-click menu can also host options for example Edit in Paint 3D, Edit in Photos, etc., which you may neven use.

So, if you wish to clear and take away useless options in the right-click menu, stick to the below steps.

Note: Before proceeding any more, create a system restore point just to be on the safe side.

Steps to pay off Up Right-click Context Menu

Unfortunately, there are no built-in user-friendly options to quickly manage or rearrange the right-click menu. Rather, you need to fiddle using the Registry Menu. Thankfully, there is a simple and free third-party program called ShellMenuView which provides a clean UI to quickly enable or disable right-click menu items.

1. First, head over the ShellMenuView official website and download the software. It's a portable application. So, there is no need for any installation.

2. After download, extract the contents to some folder on your hard drive.

Note: In case your antivirus is showing the herpes virus or threat alert, you are able to safely neglected. That is only a false positive.

3. After extracting, open the folder and execute the EXE file. If you notice a UAC prompt, click "Yes" to carry on.

4. Once you open the applying, it'll list almost all the right-click items according to their Menu Name.

5. Find the option you want to disable, select it, and click on the "Red" dot icon appearing at the top navigation bar. This action will disable that particular item. Once disabled, you will see "Yes" within the Disabled column.

6. Sometimes, it can be hard to locate what you are looking for. In those cases, make use of the different columns to sort their email list. Simply click around the column name the entries is going to be rearranged in ascending or descending order.

For example, I want to remove all of the Paint 3D entries from the right-click menu. So, I sorted the "Menu Key" column by hitting it. Then selected all the "3D Edit" entries and visited the "Red" dot icon to get rid of them from the right-click menu.

7. The alterations are instant. When you disable an entry in the ShellMenuView application, the prospective item is going to be instantly removed from the context menu. In my case, I disabled both "Edit with Paint" and "Edit with Paint 3d" options. As you can see in the below image, both choices are removed from the right-click menu.

8. Perform the same thing for the right-click entries you want to remove and you are done.

9. If you ever would like to get restore a disabled or removed right-click item, simply select it in the application and then click the "Green" dot icon appearing on the top navigation bar.

Overall

Though less elegant as selecting checkboxes with meaningful and straightforward names, the above method still is very useful and versatile in clearing up the right-click menu. After all, the applying eliminates the need to mess with the registry editor. Among the best things about the applying is it automatically hides standard entries so that you don't disable them accidentally. But when you want to, you are able to unhide them from "Options → Hide Standard Menu Items".

Keep in mind that despite the above application, you can't completely remove some options because they are added quickly. i.e, dynamically. If you wish to cope with them you will want to make use of another application called ShellExView from the same developer.

For the past few versions of Windows 10, laptop computer Settings app has gone via a large amount of improvements in aesthetics, stability, categorization, and ease of use. Though the Control Panel is still supreme when it comes to discoverability and simplicity of use, the Windows 10 Settings app is slowly getting there. Simply put, whether you want it or not, laptop computer Settings app is the User interface in Windows 10. That's one of the reasons why Microsoft made a decision to take away the Control Panel within the WinX menu.

Though the Settings app's stability and reliability has been improved greatly over time, it can still act finicky from time to time like every other program. For example, the other day I'm attempting to alter the mouse cursor size. No matter how many times I drag the slider, there is no result.

In the event like this where the app is behaving abnormally, resetting can help. So, within this quick article, let me show the best way to reset laptop computer Settings app in Windows 10 with just several clicks.

However, there is still a way to access the Settings app's settings page. Once you have access towards the settings page, you can reset it like every other store app.

1. Open the start menu. On the bottom left corner, you can see the Settings (gear) icon. Right-click around the icon and select "More → App Settings".

2. The above mentioned action will open the settings page. Here, scroll down and then click the "Reset" button.

3. To verify your action, click the "Reset" button again within the pop-up.

Once you click on the button, the PC Settings app will close itself and gets reset without anyone's knowledge. In addition to that, when the PC Settings app is pinned towards the taskbar, the icon will disappear too.

When you want to limit or block a user account, you are able to disable it temporarily. Here're the steps to disable a person account in Windows.

Windows causes it to be really simple to create a user account. All you need to do is set a username, assign a password, maybe answer some security questions and you're simply good to go. A new user account may have its very own settings and personalization options. This only denotes you don't need to bother about other users altering your settings. Actually, with respect to the user account type, you can even place and enforce your own rules like restrictions of program installations, what options can they change, etc.

Though developing a new user account is pretty easy, you can't say the same should you just want to disable a user account. Sure you are able to completely remove a user account or change its account type but Windows doesn't provide any easy way to disable a user account. In case you are wondering, disabling a user account is very useful when you want to temporarily restrict it. For instance, if you are sharing your pc together with your kids or nephews, it can regularly be helpful to lock them out if needed.

So, within this quick tutorial let me show the steps to disable user account in Windows.

Note: I'm using Windows 10 to exhibit the procedure but the same steps can be followed in Windows 7 and Windows 8.

1] lusrmgr.msc Method (easy)

Advanced User Management (lusrmgr.msc) enables you to manage all the users in your body in one place. Disabling an account is one such functionality. The advisable thing is, you are able to disable a person account with a single checkbox. Just stick to the steps out of the box and you will be good. Remember that the lusrmgr.msc tool is just available to Windows Pro users. If you are using Windows Home edition, I suggest you follow the second method.

1. First, open the Run dialog box by pressing the Win + R keyboard shortcut. In the blank field, type lusrmgr.msc and then click the "Ok" button. As soon as you press the button, Local Users & Groups snap-in window will open.

2. Here, click the "Users" folder to determine all of the users in your system. Find the user account you want to disable and double-click onto it.

3. Within the Advanced Properties window, select the "Account is disabled" checkbox. Click the "Ok" button in order to save changes.

Once you save the changes, the account is quickly disabled. In fact, you can even see a down arrow icon over the user account name/icon. That icon represents a disabled user account.

Because the user account is disabled, it will not show up on the login screen and the user cannot log into that exact account. Although the user account is disabled, the user account specific settings and files are still intact.

To allow the account, go through the steps again but uncheck the "Account is disabled" checkbox in step 3.

2] Command to Disable User Account

If you're a Windows Home user you will want to use a command to disable the consumer account. The good thing is, the command is fairly easy to remember and execute. Just follow the steps and you will be good.

1. First, open elevated Command Prompt window by searching for "cmd" in the start menu, right-clicking on it and selecting the "Run as administrator" option.

2. Before you can disable the consumer account, you should know the user name from the target account. Should you know the username, skip this task. Otherwise, execute the below command to see the usernames of all of the accounts in your system.

net user

3. Knowing the username, make use of the following command while replacing <username> with the actual username you have in the last step.

net user <username> /active:no

Once you execute the command, the user account will be disabled instantly. Just like with the first method, the consumer account won't be visible around the lock screen and also the target user cannot log to their user account.

If you want to reverse the process and enable the user account then execute the below command. As you can see, the command is extremely similar. All we did is to replace "no" with "yes".

net user <username> /active:yes

That is all.

The most recent cumulative updates for many versions of Windows 10 have a bug that's causing some PCs to produce a black screen after they've been installed, potentially leading some users to worry that their system might be seriously broken - but fortunately, the cure is simple to apply.

Windows Latest reports that the problem can occur to those running the April 2018 Update in addition to those found on the October 2018 Update, although it apparently only affects a small amount of those users. As stated, the issue crops up after getting the latest patches for that operating system, and rebooting laptop computer post-installation.

Microsoft observed: "We are investigating reports that the few devices may startup to a black screen throughout the first logon after installing updates."

Fortunately, all you have to do when confronted with said black screen is to press Ctrl + Alt + Delete together, click on the Power button (lower-right) and select Restart. Your PC will reboot, and also the desktop should then appear as per normal.

So this is almost not a huge problem, but nonetheless, it could cause some heart-stopping moments since the last thing you want to see post-patching is a blank screen instead of your desktop.

Microsoft says it's working on an answer right now, so hopefully this isn't a glitch which will hold off for too much time.

Bluetooth blues

Meanwhile, in other Windows 10 bug news, there's an additional issue affecting the famously gremlin-plagued October 2018 Update, also it relates to Bluetooth devices.

Specifically, it's brought on by cumulative update KB4494441, that was actually deployed in May having a number of important security countermeasures. However, this update causes issues with certain devices using Realtek's technology.

As highlighted by Softpedia, Microsoft explains: "Devices with Realtek Bluetooth radios in some circumstances might have issues pairing or connecting to devices."

If you are experiencing such difficulties, then the good news is that Microsoft promises a fix will be delivered later in June, so either now or next.

It hasn't been a lot of fun for Bluetooth devices where Windows 10 is concerned, since very recently we found out that Microsoft is blocking certain bits of hardware from wirelessly connecting.

Microsoft has finally decided that it can fully push ahead with deploying the troubled October 2018 Update, having officially labelled the upgrade as ready for broad deployment to Windows 10 users.

The organization has just announced: "Based around the data and the feedback we've received from consumers, OEMs, ISVs, partners, and commercial customers, Windows 10 version 1809 [Windows 10 October 2018 Update] has transitioned to broad deployment."

Essentially, which means that Microsoft believes the update is fully shipshape and able to be delivered broadly to any or all PCs, also to business computers (with business environments needing to ensure the soundness of the update for self-evident reasons - downtime is expensive here).

Windows 10 October 2018 Update has already established a dismal time of things since its release, and even shortly after it was launched, critical bugs (involving file deletion) caused Microsoft to prevent distribution of the upgrade entirely for a month.

Even when it resumed, the update was trickled out in a snail's pace, even though Microsoft announced it had fully restarted its 'phased rollout' process in January, the deployment process has still been slow.

Seriously sluggish

As we saw yesterday, the October 2018 Update is still only on around one fourth of Windows 10 PCs out there, according to one set of statistics. Maybe now the adoption rate will ultimately kick into a greater gear.

There's even talk that some computers will skip the October 2018 Update entirely, given that its successor - which will supposedly be known as the April 2019 Update - is expected to start its rollout next month.

And that's perhaps why Microsoft is now trying to forge ahead with the October 2018 Update - because there's simply little time left. Although obviously, the worry here may be that in trying to rush things out the door a bit, there may be gremlins within the works somewhere.

Fingers crossed that isn't the situation, but it wouldn't be a massive stretch to think, because of the good reputation for the October 2018 Update, which seems to have run into only niggles - or indeed show-stopping bugs - since birth.

So, you've just bought a shiny new laptop or tablet. It's unpacked, connected, and running great. However, what should you do alongside ensure you're obtaining the most out of your brand-new Windows 10 laptop?

The reply is to set up a Microsoft account. This is actually the answer to unlocking everything that's great about Windows 10, along with the wider suite of Microsoft products, tools and services.

One account for all

At its simplest, a Microsoft account serves as your PC's first type of defence. That is because the password you choose when opening your account becomes the one which grants access to your copy of Windows 10 and, ultimately, for your new device.

Move beyond that and a Microsoft account also enables you to access your email. Take a further step and your account enables you to explore great products for example Skype, and your Office 365 subscription; it will allow you to buy games, music, apps and flicks, and access your videos, photographs and documents via Microsoft's OneDrive.

In a nutshell, a Microsoft account is the gateway to Microsoft's magic kingdom. Before we delve into the technicality of setting up your account, it's worth taking a look at a little bit of simple computing theory. Specifically, we'll look at the cloud.

Until very recently, information - your files, pictures, movies and documents - counseled me stored locally. In other words, they were stored inside your PC, and on a tough disk. The benefit was you could get at them quickly. There is, however, a big downside to this way of storing information. If you lost your laptop, you'd lose all of your files too. Also, if you wanted to notice a file on the different machine, it might involve some particularly cumbersome messing going to get it.

The cloud is a tech expression used to explain a different type of storage. Here, your information lives on a remote computer, on the web. If you wish to access information you just access that external machine and obtain at your data that way. This kind of working has numerous benefits. If you lose your device, your data remains safe. Storing data in the cloud also makes it easy to access it all your different computers and devices.

A Microsoft account lets you embrace the benefits of this smarter method of working. Used, it means your computer data will feel like it's following you around! When you have everything set up, pictures adopted your phone will be viewable on your laptop, tablet or Xbox. You'll be able to reach your email, again, from any of the Microsoft devices. In a nutshell, you'll be able to get to all your data, all of the time, immediately.

The only real caveat is you need to be attached to the internet. If you aren't, your machine will still work but, Windows 10's clever data-sharing features will be paused until you're next online.

Safety and privacy

The idea of storing your information on a computer you don't own and also have never seen can seem to be rather threatening. That's because our details are precious to us, so handing over valuable stuff to some stranger might seem like a leap in to the unknown.

But there's no need to worry. Microsoft will protect your computer data by storing it very securely, cosseted and cared for like the Crown Jewels. Actually, statistically, you're more likely to lose data through your computer's hard disk failing than through Microsoft having some catastrophic problem.

And if you use a reputable VPN service to encrypt your traffic on its way back and forth from Microsoft's servers - we advise ExpressVPN, an all-around standout - then you're protecting your data against hacks on public Wi-Fi or snooping from your ISP and then any other organizations. (For more on the advantages of a VPN, for example unblocking TV using their company countries and concealing your IP address, check out good vpn buying guide for 2018.

There's, however, one major reason for weakness in counting on the cloud, and that's you. Or, more specifically, the password you choose when creating your Microsoft account (begin to see the walkthrough below). It needs to be difficult to guess, so don't use words that appear in the dictionary, and try to avoid names of your friends and family. Rather, use something which combines upper and lower-case letters and numbers or use one of the best online password managers.

Let us get started

Turn on and boot your machine, then decide what color you would like Windows to become dressed in. Just slowly move the on-screen slider with the pallet until easy reach a shade you like. Don't be concerned if you convince you at a later date, the color isn't fixed and you can amend it.

The next screens you will see cover settings - here you can just click 'Express settings'. With that done you'll be requested your Microsoft account details. If you have a merchant account already, go into the user name and password when prompted. If you haven't got one, click or tap 'Create a new account'. Next, you will be walked with the process of making your account by tapping in some basic personal details, just like your name, date of birth and current email address. Begin to see the walkthrough in this article for more information on this.

When you've completed the forms, Microsoft will send a verification code for your email address or mobile phone (you are able to determine which). When you receive the code you will need to come in into Windows 10. And, you're done. All of those other process is automatic (though a little slow - it can take a couple of minutes for Windows 10 to configure itself), and include a computerized reboot. You're now almost free to begin using Windows 10.

Final tasks

Once Windows 10 expires and running there's one final piece of housekeeping which will need to be done. You need to ensure Windows 10 is fully updated wonderful Microsoft's security and gratifaction patches. These will keep your computer happy, safe and healthy.

To set up the patches consider notifications popping up in the system tray area. Alternatively, click on the Search bar, type Check for updates, and then click 'Check now'. The procedure will take a couple of minutes to complete. With this done, you're all set to begin exploring Windows 10 and everything that is available!

Some Windows 10 users have encountered an issue with Microsoft's latest round of cumulative updates for that OS, specifically with KB4494441, that is an essential update (more about that later) for all those running the October 2018 Update.

The issue here, as highlighted by folks on Reddit, is that KB4494441 is installed, and so the update is installed again by Windows 10. Update history then suggests that there are two KB4494441 updates installed, the 2nd of which includes a number two in brackets after it - KB4494441 (2).

Although this doesn't appear to make any odds and also the update is still effective all right, reported by those experiencing the issue, it has unsurprisingly resulted in some confusion about exactly what's going on with the double installation.

Microsoft hasn't replied on Reddit or elsewhere with an official explanation that we've seen, but we did just a little digging and realized that the software giant has provided further information on the Windows 10 Release Information page.

Multi-stage installation

Essentially, what's happening is that the cumulative update is actually a multi-stage procedure that requires an initial installation, followed by a reboot, along with a further installation (and another reboot).

This should just happen and be recorded because the installation of a single update, but there's an insect which is causing Windows Update to are convinced that KB4494441 has been installed twice, much more fact that isn't the situation.

There's no harm within the glitch, save for that confusion it's caused - however it could have been nice if Microsoft had provided a definite official explanation with some visibility, rather than hiding it away in the center of a convoluted Windows 10 info page.

As to the resolution from the problem, Microsoft comments: "No action is required from you. The update installation may take longer and could require several restart, but will install successfully in the end intermediate installation steps have completed.

"We will work on improving this update experience to guarantee the Update history correctly reflects installing the latest cumulative update (LCU)."

Quite simply, a fix ought to be within the pipeline to ensure that Windows Update history simply reports this cumulative update as a single entity which has been installed.

We mentioned at the outset of this story this is a vital update, and that's since it patches against what Microsoft describes like a "new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities" (like Meltdown and Spectre), and in addition it enables 'Retpoline' automatically.

The second is a fix made to improve performance of Spectre variant 2 mitigations, and therefore your PC (hopefully) won't be slowed up as much by said mitigations. There are generally important security and potential performance boosts within this cumulative update.

With every update, Windows 10 gains lots of additional features, but Microsoft also gives the elbow to some functionality, and highlights features that will not be developed.

So, the list of features being ditched with the freshly launched May 2019 Update has just been published by Microsoft, and the good news is that when it comes to what's being removed, it's nothing that you will likely shed any tears over.

Firstly, support for XDDM-based remote display drivers is set to be removed in a future release, Microsoft notes, adding: "Independent Software Vendors which use XDDM-based remote display driver should plan a migration towards the WDDM driver model."

And secondly, the desktop messaging app is losing the sync feature which allowed it to sync texts caused by Windows Mobile devices, keeping a duplicate of these using the pc desktop. Of course, Microsoft's mobile OS is dead in the water and reaches end-of-life in December 2019, so it's not surprising that this particular bit of functionality isn't important to the company anymore.

Windows To Going, going… gone!

When it comes to features which are no more underactive development, included in this are the roaming of Taskbar settings (where it's positioned, whether or not this auto-hides, and so forth), and Microsoft advises this capability is going to be disabled inside a future release.

Windows To Go - which lets you boot up a workspace from a USB drive - will also not be developed, and the Print 3D app has been replaced by 3D Builder (which you can snag from the Microsoft Store).

Finally, with regards to Wi-Fi networks using outdated WEP security, or TKIP encryption (used in WPA - instead of WPA2 or WPA3), Windows 10 will issue an alert whenever you connect, as well as in the near future, connecting to these networks is going to be blocked completely. Microsoft rightly doesn't consider them secure enough anymore.

Windows 10 May 2019 Update is suffering as a result of another of Microsoft's cumulative updates (KB4524147) for that OS - yet again - which time the treatment for printer issues has caused, yes, you got it right: more printer bugs. As well as the awful specter of boot failure problems?-

Okay, so for perspective, let's rewind slightly towards the previous cumulative update KB4517211, which implemented numerous fixes together with a solution for muffled game audio, but additionally introduced new bugs, causing major issues for printers (seemingly HP models in the primary).

So this new patch, KB4524147, just been pushed out to "correct a current printing issue some users have experienced", except based on widespread reports over the net and Bleeping Computer, it actually breaks printers for other users - and doesn't even solve the existing bugbear.

A reader told Bleeping Computer that these updates actually "*cause* printing problems where there weren't any printing problems previously", adding: "That is ironic because those updates are specially supposed to solve printing problems."

Ironic, indeed. Apparently the print spooler service doesn't stay going after installing the cumulative update, but everything goes back to normal after uninstalling the KB4524147 patch.

In addition, but the new cumulative update can also be causing problems with the beginning menu (again) whereby it crashes and won't operate - not until Microsoft's patch is taken away. Nasty…

Boot failure

And if that wasn't enough for you personally, there are reports of PCs neglecting to boot post-update, which is a truly worrying situation and reported across multiple Reddit threads.

Until recently, most of the bugs Microsoft continues to be blundering around causing with misguided fix after fix have been relatively minor, a minimum of in the main issue - but a boot failure is not.

We've already made the situation that Microsoft badly must get on surface of these troubleshooting gremlins, or risk having its reputation ruined, and it seems that's much more the situation now. Because this is starting to get beyond a joke?-
